From the Artist
“Having grown up in Japan as a native, I feel like I’ve been surrounded by Japanese manga and anime in my daily life for as long as I can remember. Anyone who has ever visited Japan will know what I mean: walk down a city street and you’ll see billboards featuring characters from the latest trending anime, major corporate mascots, and stores selling anime merchandise. Turn on the TV, and you’ll find announcements for upcoming anime releases alongside broadcasts of currently airing popular series. Anime characters truly are everywhere.
Yet, despite being raised in this environment, if you were to ask if I could actually create an anime character myself, the answer would be absolutely not. I never received that kind of education, nor do I have any drawing experience. Still, I can at least picture the ideal female character in my head. And that brings us to this: I decided to try my hand at drawing just the face of my favorite type of female character.”
About EEO
EEO is ADAN’s twin younger sister, separated from her in childhood. What she wears on her ear is a “cat talk translator” that lets her talk with cats.
EEO 01 PINK is an original acrylic painting on wood panel by Takuya. Bold pink tones and an anime-inspired character sit on top of natural wood grain. Every brushstroke is on the surface itself, not a print.
Painted individually as part of the EEO series, each work varies in expression and brushwork. Same character, different hand, different day, so no two are the same.
